Man robbed of gold worth Rs 55,000 by fake cops near Nagpur

Nagpur: Masquerading as police officers, three robbers looted gold ornaments worth Rs 55,000 from a man near Gurudeo Petrol Pump at Kodegaon, Saoner, on Monday.

The victim, Shankar Pundlik Tadas (56) of Khapa, works with BSNL at Saoner. He was on his way to Gumgaon Mines to repair some phone lines. Posing as police officers, two men stopped him near Gurudeo Petrol Pump at Kodegaon. They told him that robbers had looted gold ornaments from a man after attacking him with knives near the Madhya Pradesh border. A man then came from behind and gave his ornaments to the two self-styled cops.

Presuming them to be police officers, Shankar, too, handed over the ornaments to them. They wrapped the ornaments in a piece of paper and kept them in the dickey of Shankar’s two-wheeler. They distracted his attention and stealthily removed them. When Shankar reached home and opened the dickey of his vehicle, he was shocked to find the ornaments missing.

Following the victim’s complaint, Khapa Police registered a case under Sections 419,420 and 34 of the IPC and launched a search for the fake cops.
