Nagpur: Sensation prevailed in Nandanvan area after a man attempted to kill a bullion trader with a knife and looted gold rings and other ornaments from his shop on Thursday evening. With serious injuries on his neck, the victim, Mahesh Belpande (45), Proprietor, Atharva Jewellers, New Nandanvan Road, was rushed to a private hospital.
Accused Piyush Sonkusare (25), a resident of Vidarbha Premier Society, Hudkeshwar, had mortgaged some ornaments with Belpande a couple of months ago. As Sonkusare did not release the mortgaged ornaments from Belpande, the latter contacted him. Sonkusare told him that he would visit his shop as he wanted to purchase a gold chain and four-five rings. After Sonkusare came, Belpande displayed gold rings before him. He told Sonkusare that he would arrange the gold chain within a day or two. Sonkusare deliberately picked a quarrel with him. After heated exchanges, Sonkusare attacked him with a knife on his neck and took away the gold rings.
Belpande’s friend rushed him to a private hospital where he is battling for his life. Meanwhile, Unit No. IV of the Crime Branch swung into action and tracked Sonkusare and put him behind bars by evening. Nandanvan Police have registered a case under Section307 and 394 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
