Nagpur:The Cyber Police in Rajasthan have apprehended four individuals from Alwar district, identified as Surendra Preetam Singh (28), Taufiq Khan Fateh Nasib Khan (25), Sampatram Shribansilal Prajapat (33), and Rukmuddin Sahbuddin (28). The accused are alleged to have created a fraudulent Facebook profile impersonating Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar. Their deceptive activities resulted in an online fraud amounting to Rs 1.13 lakh against a retired head clerk of the Police Commissionerate, Vinod Kadu.

In September of the previous year, the perpetrators initiated their scheme by crafting a fake Facebook account in the name of Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. They sent a friend request to Vinod Kadu, who had retired as the head clerk from the Commissioner of Police’s office. After Kadu accepted the friend request, the culprits engaged in conversation with him, posing as friends of Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

Subsequently, the accused obtained Kadu’s cell number by identifying themselves as CRPF officer Santosh Kumar. Under the guise of offering household appliances at subsidized rates, one of the culprits convinced Kadu to deposit the money into their accounts. To add credibility to their scheme, the fraudsters sent Kadu a bill bearing the emblem of CRPF, although they never delivered the promised appliances.

Upon realizing he had been defrauded, Kadu filed a complaint, leading the Cyber Police to register a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 470, 471, and 34. Additionally, charges were filed under Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act against the accused individuals.
