Nagpur: The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Monday stated that the quality of fire safety education in India had become at par with international standards, and now neighbouring countries were requesting the Indian government to train their firefighters at National Fire Service College (NFSC) in Nagpur.
Rai was addressing a gathering at the NFSC in Raj Nagar. The event was organised to recognise and honour the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who laid their lives while fighting fires and other disasters across the country.
Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Taj Hasan, Director of NFSC, R M Kshirsagar, Deputy Fire Advisor Moreshwar Kudkilwar, and Deputy Director (NFSC) Rajesh Choudhary were present.
The Minister’s address at the NFSC was an acknowledgment of the critical role played by firefighters in ensuring the safety of citizens in the face of disasters. The Central Government’s allocation of funds for the fire service is a positive step towards improving fire safety measures in the country. MoS Rai’s remarks were well-received by the audience, which included firefighters, students with meritorious services, and officials from the fire services.
The Minister praised the firefighters for their efficiency and said they were making valuable contributions to the progress of the nation. He acknowledged that the fire service was not limited to fighting fires, but was also active in all kinds of disasters. He commended the contribution of the firefighters during the COVID-19 pandemic and said that their rigorous training at NFSC further honed their skills.
8 Maha firefighters receive medals
Eight firefighters and officers from Maharashtra received the Fire Service Medal for Gallantry (Independence Day, 2021) on this occasion. These firemen are DMC & Director I/C MFS Prabhat Surajlal Rahangdale, Dy CFO Hemant Dattatrey Parab, DFO Atamaram Jagdambaprasad Mishra, ADFO Krishnat Ramchandra Yadav, ASO Balasaheb Bansi Netke, Firemen Pankaj Ashok Pawar, Sandeep Dharmaraj Asekar, Rajendra Balkrishna Rajam.
Fireman rescuer Balu Damu Deshmukh received the President’s Fire Service Medal for Gallantry (2022) posthumously. Fire service Medal for Gallantry (Independence Day, 2022) were awarded to seven firefighters and officers — ADFO Kishore Dyandeo Ghadigaonkar, SO Sagar Jagannath Khopade, SO Vishal Chandrakant Vishwasrao, SO Deepak Madhukar Jadhav, Leading Fireman Sanjay Sadashiv Gaikwad, Fireman Ganesh Devram Chaudhari and Fireman Sanjay Laxman Nikam.
