Nagpur: Dashing the hopes of the organizers and the Maratha Community leaders, the Maratha-Kunbi Mukh Kranti Morcha on December 14, 2016 had gathered less than 10,000 members of the Maratha Kunbi by 1 p.m. at Yeshwant Stadium. More people joined later, but never got to the expected number. A few girls though did give very impressive and emotional speeches to infuse enthusiasm in those present in the stadium.
Disciplined Morcha
What was worth noticing is that the organizers had made all arrangements to ensure that the rally goes off in a disciplined manner. Volunteers helped in redirecting the vehicles at various road blocks. They ensured that the men and women sat separately. They formed a chain and walked on both the sides to ensure that the rallyists stay within the road.
When the rally began, people marched in a set of four. There were house-keeping volunteers who were picking up empty water-pouches, papers and other dirt which the rallyists were accidentally throwing.
The Rally
The rally started at around 11:30 am. The rally was led by young girls, followed by small children and then women. Then started the men from rural areas and then the leaders featured at the tail of the rally. While speaking to Nagpur Today, some cops who were observing the rally from the beginning to the end claimed that till around 1:30 the number of rallyists who participated in the rally can be pegged at around 20,000 to 25,000 people.
The important personalies from the Maratha Community who were prominently present included Bhau Jagtaap, Anil Deshmukh, Salil Deshmukh and Abhijeet Deshmukh, scion of Raje Raghuji Bhonsle, etc. There were women leaders and MLAs too present in the rally.
Some of the leaders while speaking to Nagpur Today claimed that many members of the Maratha Kunbi Community are on the way and may join at the Morcha Point. They claimed that many community members will join from Amravati Road and from LIC Direction.
