Kunbi and its sub-castes come under OBC and they are entitled to 17 percent reservations in the State. In case Maratha community is issued Kunbi certificate they too would automatically fall under OBC and this would pave way for availing reservations.

The Justice (retd.) Shinde committee was set-up to examine proof as to mention of Kunbi caste among Maratha community and suggest modalities for issuing such caste certificates. The first report of the committee was accepted by the Cabinet at its October 31 meeting.
