Nagpur: Lance Nayak Chandrashekhar Rupchand Bhonde (34), who made supreme sacrifice while serving the Indian Army, was cremated with full State honours at Dongargaon near Wainganga River in Bhandara district on Sunday.
Chandrashekhar, who had served 14 years in the Army, died while undergoing treatment at the military hospital after their vehicle met with an accident in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir. The mortal remains of Chandrashekhar were brought to his residence in the morning where MP Sunil Mendhe, Raju Karemore, former MLA Charan Waghmare, District Sainik Welfare Officer Mahesh Patil paid tributes.
A large number of people had gathered for the funeral and the procession reached Mokshadham via Khat Road, Khamb Talao Square, Shashtri Square, Gandhi Square, Trimurti Square. The people raised slogans like ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Vande Mataram’. The members of Swatantrya Sangram Sainik Sanghatana also paid tributes by laying a wreath. The District Police Department squad fired 3 rounds of fire to give a gun salute to the martyr.
The last rites were performed by Chandrashekhar’s younger brother Sachin.
