Nagpur: Nagpur Mayor Nanda Jichkar represented the city at the City Net Congress held at Colombo in Sri Lanka, organised by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific. She also attended as REXCom the UNFCCC CPO23 held at Bonn in Germany.
The City Net Congress was held in Colombo on November 6 to 8. In this 300 representatives from cities of different countries and International organisations had taken part. The mayors of different cities, Urban leaders and international experts had come together to discuss how to implement planning and management of energy, water and food through peer to peer learning platform with Nexus view. In this programme Mayor Nanda Jichkar informed how the project can help in solving problems of Nagpur’s urban development.
International Council of Local Environmental Initiative South Asia and Regional GIZ City Nexus 2016 are implementing a project ‘Integrated Resource Management in Nagpur. The main objective of the City Nexus project is getting an integrated view and motivating Urban Development Planning process. The project will focus on water, energy and garbage management.
Jichkar represent Nagpur at UNFCCC CPO23 convention
The UNFCCC CPO23 convention was organised in Germany’s Bonn on November 10 to 14 and Mayor Nanda Jichkar participated as the Local Self body’s regional Executive Committee member. More than 330 local and regional leaders from more 60 countries participated. In this convention more than 100 events, roundtable discussions, press conferences and digital conferences were held. The convention particularly focused around Sustainable Development Goal – to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Nagpur Mayor emphasised on undertaking various projects of low carbon for building a smart city and various other topics she touched upon concerning the climate.
Nanda Jichkar on Exec Committee (REXCOM)
It may be mentioned that Nagpur’s Mayor Nanda Jichkar has been elected on the Regional executive Committee (REXCom) of International Council of Local Environmental Initiative (South Asia) for a period from 2018 to 2021. Nagpur has been the member of ICLEI for last 10 years and has been working with ICLEI (South Asia) on Renewable Energy and Resources Efficiency Project.
