Nagpur: Sensation prevailed at Automotive Square in Nagpur on Tuesday afternoon when a mentally challenged man climbed a 30-metre tall mobile tower and proceeded to remove wires and other apparatus installed on it. Firemen and police had to struggle hard to understand what he was saying before getting him down and bringing him to safety even as he threatened to take the plunge.
Yashodhara Nagar police identified the man as Devidas Hokar from Bihar and said he was of unsound mind.
After passers-by informed the police around 2.30 pm, Senior Police Inspector Dyaneshwar Bhadokar of Yashodhara Nagar police station summoned firefighters who reached the spot, and with the help of a 42-metre turn table ladder, brought him down.
The incident underscores the need for improved security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
