Nagpur: In an unprecedented turn of events, a multitude of students residing in the boys’ hostel of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) stormed outside the residence of the Vice Chancellor in the early hours of 2:30 am. The protest aimed to draw attention to the appalling living conditions within the university hostels.
During an interaction with Nagpur Today Reporter Avani Arya, the agitated students expressed their frustration over the dire situation in the RTMNU hostel. The primary concerns highlighted by the students include:
* Water scarcity: Students reported a severe lack of water supply in the hostels, exacerbating their daily struggles.
* Poor water quality: The protesters drew attention to the deplorable state of the lone water purifier, infested with algae at the bottom, posing a serious health risk.
* Inadequate sanitation facilities: The students lamented the existence of only one washroom, devoid of a door, and the absence of basic amenities such as dustbins.
* Electricity issues: The hostel dwellers face recurring problems related to electricity, further compromising their living conditions.
* Unhygienic food: The protestors raised concerns about the substandard quality of food served in the hostels, posing health risks to the students.

According to the students, their attempts to bring about change have been met with indifference for several years. Despite persistent efforts, the university administration has allegedly turned a blind eye to their grievances, intensifying the frustration among the ‘merit’ students.
