Nagpur: A low intensity quake was reported in Nagpur on Thursday afternoon. The tremor was of low intensity, just 2.5 on the Richter Scale as per the information recorded by National Centre for Seismology, which hardly had any impact on the normal life.
The depth of the quake, which occurred at 3.11 pm, was reported to be 5 km underneath the ground and its epicentre was 16 km in the North-East direction of the city. Further, as per information collated from experts, the epicentre is reported to be village Singori near Silewara in Saoner tehsil.
The area is dotted with an open cast coal mine operated by Western Coalfileds Limited (WCL). In the recent past, several small intensity quakes have been recorded at the Seismology Centre here in Central India. Over the past two months, two minor quakes were reported in Akola, one in Betul, one at Wardha and two at Nagpur. Their intensity was between 2.5 and 3 on the Richter Scale.
