Upon investigation by locals, they found an iron board lying on the road. It is suspected that the same fell on the road accidentally, while many assumed that it was placed there desperately. An official probe has been launched to find out if the incident was planned or was an accident.

The incident took place at 10 pm on December 29 between the Malegaon and Vanoja toll plaza in Washim district. During the incident, mostly four-wheelers and cargo trucks were impacted, which resulted in a long traffic jam overnight.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg is currently operating partially. It spans six lanes and is a 701-km-long access-controlled expressway in Maharashtra. The stretch is one of the longest greenfield road projects in India, connecting Mumbai and the State’s third-largest city Nagpur. It was built at a cost of Rs 55,000 crore.

Once completed, the Samruddhi Highway will travel through 10 key districts directly and 14 districts indirectly.
