Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and DPIIT-IPR Chair at Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur in association with CIPAMconducted‘Awareness Program on ‘Intellectual PropertyRights’onFebruary 13, 2023. The program was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, MNLU, Nagpur. Mr. Mathews Verghese, Group Head- Intellectual Property, Fox Mandal, New Delhi and Ms. Suvarna Pandey, Associate Partner, RNA, Technology and IP Attorneys, Gurgaon were the resource person for the awareness program.
Dr.RaginiKhubalkar, Associate Professor of Law, Inchargeof the DPIIT-IPR hair & CIPR at MNLU, Nagpur,delivered the welcome address. She emphasised the significance of intellectual property in the modern era. She also highlighted the procedural aspects of intellectual property. She welcomed the resource people and appreciated the participants’ access to first-hand information.
Mr. Mathews Vergheseaddressed the participants on the procedure of copyright registration and protection. He explained the idea expression dichotomy and subect matter of copyright in brie. While discussing the importance of registration he explained that registration of copyright ensures that the work is properly marked, and therefore it gets registered as a supporting evidence. Further he discussed about the agreement between co-authors. The next resource person Ms. Suvarna Pandey spoke about the patent registration process. She emphasised the significance of prior art and search. She discussed numerous patent applications in detail and outlined the importance of novelty and inventive step in a patent application. The resource persons responded to all of the participants’ questions, and the participants were very interactive.
Ms. Drishti Khurana, Assistant Manager, CIPAM, Ms. Shweta Kulkarni, Ms. Trupti Kokate, Research Assistants, DPIIT-IPR Chair, MNLU, Nagpur all contributed to the program’s success. The public awareness campaign was a success. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. ShrutiMadora, Student Member, CIPR, MNLU, Nagpur. Participants at the awareness programme included academicians, research scholars, and MNLU, Nagpur students.
