MNLU Nagpur conducts Training Programme on New Criminal Laws

Nagpur: Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur conducted a Training Programme on Sensitization of Police Officers on the New Criminal Laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023; Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023; and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 on June 26, 2024.

The training programme was attended by 38 police officers serving the Butibori, Bela, M.I.D.C Bori police officers of Nagpur District (Rural) who were trained regarding the reform in criminal law brought about due to the enforcement of BNS, BNSS, BSA which will replace The Indian Penal Code, 1860, The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, and The Indian Evidence Act, 1872 respectively, from July 01, 2024. The training programme was conceptualised by Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of MNLU, Nagpur with the core objective of training the police officials about the intricacies of the three new criminal laws and its impact on policing practices.

The training programme was seen to fruition by the Superintendent of Police of Nagpur District (Rural) – Shri. Harssh A. Poddar who emphasised on the significance of the training programme in the field work to be undertaken by the police officers. The instructors for the training programme were faculty members of MNLU Nagpur- Dr. Aarti Tayde; Prof. Trisha Mittal; and, Dr. Divita Pagey.

Similar training programme was conducted by MNLU, Nagpur on March 30-31, 2024 and May 17-18, 2024 for police officers serving various districts in the region. The training programmes were successfully concluded while envisioning more such training programmes conducted by the university in future.
