The storming and vandalism on the part of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists and the agents was the direct result of an order issued by the Deputy Regional Transport Officer Vijay Chavan to curb the nefarious activities of agents who indulged in “looting” of citizens by various means in their den, the RTO premises.
Nagpur News.
The Regional Transport Office and its officials tasted the “MNS style of protest” when the activists of the outfit and RTO agents stormed the office and went on damaging cars spree in the premises of the key transport department. The cars, which became victims of the fury, belonged to Deputy Regional Transport Officer Vijay Chavan and other officers.
According to reports, the storming and vandalism on the part of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists and the agents was the direct result of an order issued by the Deputy Regional Transport Officer Vijay Chavan to curb the agents who indulged in “looting” of citizens by various means in their den, the RTO premises. The agents were, in fact, ruling the roost by carrying out every possible work needed by the citizens like learning licence, renewal, transfer of vehicles, registration and other concerned jobs. In simple words: No work was possible without the help of agents, and subsequently, citizens were forced to empty their pockets in larger proportions for their works. And, not to mention the corruption indulged in by the RTO employees themselves for their share from the agents.
However, the ‘Agent Rule’ came to an end when Vijay Chavan issued orders to oust the agents from the premises and asked the people to come through the legal procedure. The order of Chavan provided a great relief to the “harassed” citizens, and a great jolt to the agents, too.
The jolted and enraged agents and some MNS workers gate-crashed the RTO premises and started damaging the cars of Deputy Regional Transport Officer Vijay Chavan and Regional Transport Officer Sarjerao Shelke. The MNS workers were identified as Sachin Thote, Javed Pathan, and one other. They completely damaged Chavan’s car by smashing the glasses, steering wheel and other parts of his car (MH 01 ZA 5555). The vandals also threatened the security guard who attempted to stop them from entering the premises. However, the MNS activists and the agents fled the premises after damaging the cars.
Chavan, while speaking to Nagpur Today, said, the attack on his car was the outcome of his stiff opposition to the presence of agents in RTO premises. However, he further asserted his resolve to act against the agents and said that no such attacks would help the agents and they would not be allowed to carrying their nefarious business in the premises in future, too.
Chavan and Shelke have filed a complaint against the MNS workers and agents with Sitabuldi police station. Police are investigating the matter further.
