Nagpur: High drama unfolded on the Central MIDC road connecting Hingna and Wadi T-points in Nagpur when a group of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists vandalised a toll booth, protesting against illegal toll charges being collected from commercial vehicles.
The incident, which took place on Monday afternoon, led to the detention of four individuals by the Wadi Police, including Kadir Mahajan of Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena and Shrimant Datta. The confrontation escalated when MNS activists, brandishing party flags, smashed the glass frontage of the toll booth with sticks. The altercation was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread attention.
The toll booth, located on the now-designated National Highway on Central MIDC road, has been a point of contention. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had previously declared the toll booths illegal and encouraged local entrepreneurs from the MIDC Industrial estate to take legal action. The toll booth in question was charging Rs 60 plus from each passing commercial heavy vehicle, while private vehicles were exempted from fees.
Senior Inspector Rajesh Tatkare, In-Charge ofWadi Police Station, confirmed the detention of the MNS activists and stated that further investigations were ongoing. The situation remains tense as authorities continue to examine the legality of the toll operations and the actions of the MNS activists.
