Nagpur: In a dramatic turn of events at Itwari Sarafa Market, a molestation suspect, Ankush alias Guddu Pintu Bagdi, 37, attempted to evade arrest by setting his Great Dane on police constable Sanjay Ramlal Shahu. The incident unfolded late on August 27, 2024, as Constable Shahu, on night duty, sought to apprehend Ankush for allegedly harassing a young girl.
Upon arriving at Ankush’s residence, tensions escalated quickly. The suspect verbally confronted Constable Shahu and then commanded his Great Dane to attack when the officer moved to make an arrest. The dog inflicted a severe bite on Constable Shahu’s left thumb before the police managed to fend it off with batons, forcing it to retreat.
Adding to the chaos, Ankush’s father, Pintu Nandlalji Bagdi, 73, intervened aggressively, verbally abusing and threatening the officers. Despite the resistance, police successfully subdued both Ankush and his father. Constable Shahu was promptly rushed to Mayo Hospital for medical treatment.
The Tehsil Police Station has filed a case under Sections 132, 291, 296, 351, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against Ankush and his father. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
