Nagpur: Movement within the Government Medical College and Hospital (Medical) is becoming more restricted as several new security measures are being implemented. Over the past two months, the number of security guards has been increased, and additional CCTV cameras have been installed. Recently, two admission passes are being issued to the companions of admitted patients, allowing them easier access within the facility. This step is seen as a significant move to curb the presence of antisocial elements on the premises.
Admission Passes Regularly Issued for Two Months
In recent years, various proposals have been prepared to enhance security at the Medical College. Some of these proposals were under consideration, and due to government procedures, it took months for them to be drafted, approved, and implemented. A few months ago, a decision was made to issue admission passes to the companions or caretakers of admitted patients, which was briefly implemented and then discontinued. The practice has been reinstated over the past two months, according to sources.
Three-Day Validity with an Extension Option
Two admission passes are issued to the companions of admitted patients based on the patient’s documents. The passes specify the visiting hours as 4 PM to 7 PM and are valid for three days. If the patient remains admitted for a longer period, the validity can be extended with the in-charge nurse’s signature. Only those with valid passes are allowed inside, which has significantly reduced the presence of antisocial elements around the premises or wards. Additionally, incidents of theft from patients or their relatives have ceased. Sources reveal that on average, 225 patients are admitted daily at the Medical College. Their relatives, friends, or acquaintances often accompany them, requiring frequent visits during the patient’s stay. The issuance of admission passes has made it easier for them to move around, while security personnel no longer need to conduct extensive questioning or checks. It is reported that over 400 passes are being issued daily.
