Nagpur: In a significant stride towards promoting electric vehicle (EV) adoption, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), serving as the nodal agency, has led the establishment of 59 electric vehicle charging stations across Nagpur circle.
Private electric vehicles plying in Nagpur district are being powered up by MSEDCL, the pivotal agency for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Maharashtra, which has facilitated the setup at 59 locations. MSEDCL owns six and 53 charging stations in the city and Nagpur district, respectively. Also, six private charging stations have been developed in Wardha district, said a press release issued by MSEDCL.
According to MSEDCL, the steady increase in demand for these facilities is the driving force behind development of the charging infrastructure. Not only private entities including Tata Power, Reliance BP Mobility, Nangia Motors and Suzlon Energy, but also local civic bodies such as Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Butibori Nagar Parishad, Wadi Nagar Parishad and religious trust Jagdamba Devasthan Koradi are contributing to the city’s charging infrastructure.
In Nagpur city, MSEDCL’s charging stations are strategically placed across various substations such as Kalamna and Mayo in Gandhibagh division, Model Mill in Mahal division, and Nara, MRS, and Bijlinagar in Civil Lines division. Moreover, Bharat Petroleum operates stations in Bazargaon, Kamptee, Tekadi, Parseoni, Borgaon, Ramtek, Butibori, Hingna, and Kamptee Road, while Hindustan Petroleum’s stations are located at Satnavari, Neri, Kapsi, Chinchbhavan and Bhandara Road.
In Wardha district, private stations can be found at Laxmi Hotel, SVL AG House, Deogan, Hinganghat, Nagalwadi and Karanja MIDC.
Mahavitaran provides infrastructure for EV charging and offers technical assistance for establishing charging stations. There is an app for locating charging stations and utilizing the facility. For those interested in establishing charging stations, MSEDCL has launched a dedicated website and the ‘PowerUp EV’ mobile app,” said MSEDCL.
The press release emphasized the economic advantage of EVs, citing a mere 56 paise per kilometer cost for electric two-wheelers compared to petrol’s Rs 2.14, and Rs. 1.55 for electric four-wheelers against petrol’s Rs 7.60. This underscores the undeniable economic benefits of electric vehicles.
