Nagpur: The Nagpur Division of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has launched a drive to discontinue supply to consumers who have not paid their dues. In the last 25 days, around 2,500 connections have faced the MSEDCL heat with the drive set to intensify.
As per MSEDCL, in Nagpur Circle, which includes Nagpur and Wardha districts, arrears worth Rs 70.54 crore are pending from domestic, commercial and industrial consumers. MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to immediately pay their outstanding dues or face disconnection.
The power distribution company revealed that consumers from Nagpur city have pending bills worth Rs 51.86 crore followed by consumers from Nagpur Rural which has Rs 11.54 crore arrears. Consumers from Wardha Circle have an outstanding balance of Rs 7.34 crore.
The MSEDCL has been suffering huge losses because of non-payment of electricity bills by consumers despite repeated requests. With only a few days left for the end of the financial year, MSEDCL has intensified its dues collection drive.
In Nagpur circle, MSEDCL is currently zeroing in on defaulters who have bills pending above Rs 5,000. The company is focusing on recovering dues from consumers having pending bills over Rs 5,000, if bill payment is not done, it will discontinue supply, said an MSEDCL official.
Along with dues recovery, MSEDCL is also keeping a close eye on power theft. Separate teams are appointed for this purpose. MSEDCL said that if someone’s electricity is cut due to arrears and the consumer is taking electricity from a neighbour then action will be taken against both under Section 135/138 of the Electricity Act.
