Nagpur: Taking a cue from SNDL, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has undertaken pre-summer maintenance task such as upkeep of overhead LT lines, cooling arrangement of transformers, trimming of trees etc in view of temperatures recording an upward trend since the very beginning of this year. In between the untimely rains and lightning bolts striking the city and thus creating havoc with smooth power supply. The same situation could be faced in April too. Faced with the situation, the MSEDCL has undertaken maintenance and repairing of infrastructure in a big way to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the adverse conditions. Since the heat impacts the existing and long-standing infrastructure the most, the maintenance and repairing task is necessitated to ensure non-stop power supply in the tormenting summer.
The MSEDCL has already completed most of the pre-summer activities on priority basis. This includes network sensitive tasks such as trimming of trees, getting rid of nasty stuffs such as kites, manja, cloth pieces, etc from overhead lines, replacement of pin, disc and shackle insulators wherever needed and tightening of LT and HT lines jumpers. Oil level in the 33/11 KV transformers is being maintained to avoid overheating of transformers. Similarly strengthening of earthing wires, upkeep of DP boxes, feeder pillars, mini pillars, is going on.
However, since the temperatures started rising quite early this year and extended shutdowns were not advisable, therefore extensive and time-taking activities have been undertaken during the regular maintenance shutdown period every Wednesday to avoid inconvenience to the consumers.
The works being still in-progress, the MSEDCL has requested the citizens to highlight specific summer-centric requirements to the nearby MSEDCL office so that it can be taken up as a priority element.
