Nagpur: In a show of unity, the two “rivals” within the Congress party – DCC President Rajendra Mulak and Saoner MLA Sunil Kedar – sought to sink differences and shared dais of a meeting held to review preparations for the ensuing Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. The unity show on the part of two leaders at the Sunday meeting cheered the party workers and left their moral high. Kedar, sulking over appointment of Mulak as DCC President, attended the meeting with a number of supporters giving credence that the two leaders have buried their hatchets.
The crucial meeting of District Congress Committee was held at Ganeshpeth-based Indira Gandhi Smruti Bhavan on Sunday morning. The meeting was presided over by DCC President Rajendra Mulak and attended by Saoner MLA Sunil Kedar, members and office-bearers of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis.
Addressing the meeting, Mulak said that Congress will have play the role of Opposition aggressively in the ZP and Panchayat Samitis. “Answers from rulers have to be sought on various problems being faced by people. The ruling party should be held responsible for its misdoings and difficulties of people. ZP elections are round the corner. The party leaders and workers will have to be prepared unitedly to ensure victory for Congress.
The members of ZP and Panchayat Samitis should visit each and every village and hold discussions with Sarpanchs, Upa Sarpanchas, members of Gram Panchayats, party workers for strengthening the party at grassroots level. They should also actively participate in voter registration campaigns and encourage people to exercise their franchise in the civic polls,” Mulak stressed.
The meeting was attended prominently by Suresh Bhoyar, Sunita Gawande, Mujeeb Pathan, Manohar Kumbhare, Sanjay Meshram, Shantatai Kumre, Kundatai Raut, a larger number of members of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis.
