Nagpur: Investigation into the murder case of Jyotsna Akre in Nagpur revealed that the Army Jawan had killed her after she threatened to report him to his commanding officer over his refusal to marry her. The accused, Ajay Anand Wankhede (33), a resident of Kailas Nagar, is currently in police custody until October 24.
Ajay is stationed in Nagaland and had been in a relationship with Jyotsna for approximately one-and-a-half years after they met through the matrimonial site Shaadi.com. Their families had initially shown support for the relationship, but as time passed, Ajay began to distance himself from the commitment of marriage. Jyotsna was previously married to an engineer from Pune four years ago, but their relationship deteriorated over time and she filed for divorce.
It was during this period that she met Ajay, who initially maintained regular contact with her via social media and WhatsApp. However, as their relationship progressed, he began to avoid serious discussions about marriage. On August 28, Ajay invited Jyotsna to meet him in the Besa area of Nagpur, where he later drove her to Dongargaon. Later, he took her to a hotel. During the meeting the situation escalated, said police.
Jyotsna forced Ajay for marriage, but he refused her offer. In a moment of desperation, Jyotsna threatened to complain to his Colonel and asserted that she had his number and would not hesitate to take action. This threat triggered a violent response from Ajay. In a fit of rage, he struck her on the head with a heavy object and killed her.
Following the murder, Ajay transported Jyotsna’s body to a remote area near Butibori. He stole three bags of cement from a nearby construction site. After placing her body in the trunk of his vehicle, he buried it in a pit and covered it with cement. The investigation began when Jyotsna’s family registered a missing case and the police unravelled the mystery.
