Nagpur: The year was 2022, and it was the month of February when Nagpur Police registered the praiseworthy feat of recording zero murders in the Second Capital of the State. However, two years have passed, and this rare accomplishment has also become a story of the past!
From the ‘murder-free’ February in 2022, Nagpur has witnessed a ‘murder-spree’ February in 2024. In 29 days of February 2024, Nagpur has witnessed 13 incidents of murderous assaults where 15 people have lost their lives.
Interestingly, most of the accused involved in these cases of murders were history-sheeters. However, cops claimed that the notorious accused were subjected to preventive actions, and murders were the fallout of impulsive actions instead of gang wars.
Speaking to Nagpur Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Detection Nimit Goyel informed that, “Except for one or two instances, most of the murders were actions of impulsive killing. The accused persons had a previous record of the crime, and they have faced strict prevention actions from the cops too. We are appalled by the demise of innocent lives. We’ve again increased preventive actions of 110, MPDA, Arms Act against the hardcore criminals. Nagpur Police are dedicated to ensuring law and order,” he said.
