Nagpur: The Second Capital of Maharashtra is on the edge as spate of armed robberies continues to rock Nagpur. In the latest incident, which allegedly occurred near the Butibori bridge on Wardha Road near Nagpur, armed assailants targeted a businessman, looting a staggering Rs 44 lakh in cash. However, the businessman refused to file a police complaint and avoided cops sparking a mystery behind the crime.

Though it has been alleged that the targeted businessman, who has not been identified, had recently sold his farm at Butibori, was travelling to Nagpur in his car with a driver. The criminals struck when the businessman made a brief stop under the Butibori bridge for a nature’s call. A car approached from behind, and two armed robbers emerged, with one brandishing a knife. The other assailant seized a bag containing the cash after threatening the businessman, making a swift escape from the scene.

However, speaking to Nagpur Today, Hridaynarayan Yadav, Senior PI Butibori Police Station, denied having any information regarding the alleged dacoity as the victim businessman refused to speak to Butibori police personnel including the PI.

“We had tried several times to contact the victim but he has refused to entertain our questions. I have myself tried to contact him a couple of times but he is giving random excuses to appear before Butibori police and lodge a police complaint,” said the PI Yadav and mentioned that no FIR has been lodged in this connection so far.

Though mystery shrouds over the Butibori dacoity, an alarming rise in armed robberies comes at a challenging time for the Nagpur police, who are still grappling with the unsolved case of the biggest heist ever reported in the city. The earlier incident involved the looting of Rs 4.38 crore from two employees of a travel company on the Outer Ring Road leading to the Samruddhi Expressway.

In another audacious act, armed individuals targeted a residence in the Rotkar Layout area near New Om Nagar in Hudkeshwar, looting Rs 8 lakh in cash and holding the occupants hostage. The cumulative impact of these incidents is exacerbating concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Nagpur.
