Nagpur: Maharashtra lost one more tiger in Kanhan, 15 km from Nagpur. The death is shrouded in mystery and only a post-mortem will be able to throw light on the exact cause. This is the 20th tiger death in Maharashtra since January 1, 2024, which seems to be the second highest in the country after Madhya Pradesh.

The tiger was found dead in the farm of Prakash Ambatkar in Patgowari in the afternoon. It was evening when the forest department team reached the spot and hence the post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday. “We don’t suspect it to be electrocution or a territorial fight. Though samples have been collected for forensic tests, only the post-mortem will reveal how the tiger died,” said Bharat Singh Hada, Deputy Conservator of Forest (DyCF), Nagpur.

The increasing number of tiger deaths in Maharashtra has become a cause for concern for wildlife conservationists and the forest department. The state government has been taking steps to protect the tiger population, but the recent incidents have raised questions about the effectiveness of these measures.

Many people in the area have expressed their concern about the safety of their livestock and the potential threat to human life posed by the tigers. The forest department has assured the locals that they are taking all the necessary steps to address the issue and prevent further incidents.

The death of the tiger in Kanhan has once again highlighted the need for better conservation efforts and the importance of protecting wildlife habitats. The government and the forest department must work together to find a long-term solution to this problem and ensure the safety of both the tigers and the local population.
