In a powerful statement, the Archdiocesan Women’s Commission of Nagpur has strongly condemned the ongoing neglect and violence against women in society. The Commission, led by Director Sr. Daya Mathew, has called for the most severe punishment for the perpetrator involved in the recent Kolkata case, reflecting the Commission’s deep concern over the safety and dignity of women across the country.

Mrs. Juliet Robert Vincent, President of the Nagpur Archdiocesan Women’s Commission, voiced her frustration and despair, questioning the persistence of gender-based violence. “How long will women continue to suffer atrocities in society? How long will we keep counting incidents like Nirbhaya 1, Nirbhaya 2, and keep lighting candles? How long will we endure atrocities in our own homes? Why? Until when?” she asked, highlighting the urgent need for change.

The Commission’s appeal extends to the courts, the government, and society at large, urging them to uphold women’s right to live with dignity. “How can we educate our daughters if they are confined to their homes? If we send them out to study, how will we protect them?” Mrs. Vincent added, emphasizing the fear and uncertainty that plague women and their families.

Sr. Daya Mathew further stressed the need for societal reform, stating, “Bring back the lost humanity in society and save women; otherwise, neither women nor society will survive.” The Commission’s call to action is a plea for a collective effort to restore safety, respect, and justice for women, ensuring a future where they can live and thrive without fear.
