Nagpur News: More than Rs 1 lakh has been estimated to be spent on supplying water to the leaders, officials and employees arriving in Nagpur to participate in the upcoming winter session of State Assembly.
The water supply department of Nagpur Municipal Council has been entrusted with the task of ensuring round the clock water supply at various offices and key buildings while the session is on.
Prominent places like Vidhan Bhawan, Ramgiri, Devgiri, Ravi Bhawan, Hyderabad House, MLA hostel, Office of Chief Secretary and Nag Bhawan have been directly linked with main pipe line through which there will be regular supply at Futala line and Rifle line.
The rifle line has been linked to the main line situated on a stretch from Seminary Hills to Civil Lines while the Futala line is connected to the supply line from Shankar Nagar to Civil Lines. This fresh arrangement would ensure 24 hours water supply at these places.
Besides, new water connections have been put at various government buildings and residential bungalows. Till two years back, most of these buildings including MLA hostel were provided with multiple pipe-lined water connections which badly hampered the flow of water. But the latest development will improvise the water supply in these places.
It may be mentioned here that water crisis faced by the leaders in the past prompted them to raise this issue in Vidhan Sabha leaving aside other important matter. The leaders had also pulled up the Public Works Department and NMC for the irregular water supply at these buildings. The bitter fact, however, is that the water bills incurred during the assembly session were borne by the Public Works Department (PWD).
