State Cabinet doubles the pension of freedom fighters to Rs 20,000 per month from Rs 10,000 now

Nagpur/Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Cabinet on Thursday, November 17, took a number of decisions.

The State Cabinet presided by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with Cabinet Ministers approved facilities to be provided to Nagpur-based Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU). Approval has also been given to recruit the post of Additional Secretary to the Chief Justice of Nagpur and Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court.

The Cabinet meeting approved the provision of Rs 25.85 crore for providing facilities to the Maharashtra National Law University at Nagpur. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems will be installed in the buildings of the educational complex, boys’ and girls’ hostel, amenity block and administrative complex in the permanent campus of this university at Waranga locality of Nagpur.

The State Cabinet also cancelled the order of punitive action regarding minor minerals for construction of Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg named Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray.

The Maharashtra Government doubled the pension of freedom fighters who took part in the Indian independence movement, the Marathwada Mukti Sangram and the Goa liberation struggle, to Rs 20,000 per month from Rs 10,000 now. A decision to this effect was taken at the weekly Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

The Cabinet also cleared a proposal to allow Socially and Educationally Backward Classes candidates (Marathas) to avail jobs quota under the category of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), whose constitutional validity has been upheld by the Supreme Court. In this regard, the Cabinet approved the recruitment process starting after September 9, 2020, said a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The statement said the cooperation department’s proposal to allow farmers, whose names do not figure in the voters list, to contest Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) elections was approved at the meeting.

The cabinet approved a proposal to raise Rs 35,629 crore through loans to fund road development projects in the state, it said. This will help in expediting land acquisition for such projects.
