Nagpur-based women’s gang held for thefts in Vindhyachal Exp

Nagpur/Jabalpur: In a major breakthrough, GRP Jabalpur busted a Nagpur-based gang of women thieves involved in stealing valuables from women in Vindhyachal Express train and apprehended 12 members of the gang. GRP has retrieved the stolen gold and silver jewellery from the thieves amounting to Rs 4 lakh, a local media report said.

Superintendent of Railway Police Simala Prasad disclosed this while addressing a press conference on Tuesday. She informed that taking a serious note of complaints of theft with women passengers of Vindhyachal Express between Gadarwara and Sohagpur, GRP Jabalpur started a special campaign to put-up a vigilant check on the increasing number of thefts in trains.

Continuing the campaign, GRP Gadarwara Post received a complaint from a woman passenger Kanchan Pandey that she boarded on Vindhyachal Express at Gadarwara Railway Station when she sensed somebody opened the chain of her bag. She checked and found that her gold and silver jewellery amounting to Rs 2 lakh was missing from her bag.

Taking prompt action on the complaint, GRP Gadarwara came in action and started a rigorous checking at the railway station. During the checking, GRP personnel learnt that a group of women failed to board the train and suddenly rushed outside the railway station. GRP started enclosing the area and trapped the 12 suspected women at 30 km far from the railway station in Bankhedi.

In the interrogation, the women confessed to stealing valuables from women passengers in Vindhyachal Express and retrieved the stolen gold and silver jewellery buried into the soil. The arrested women have been identified as Seema Pandey, Narbada Pandey, Poonam Mankar, Tanuja alias Sharda Mankar, Sati alias Shashikala, Neha Nade, Manisha Hathagle, Varsha Ufade, Sahitri Londe, SaripaMankar, Vinita Mankar and Padma Mankar, all residents of Bhagwanpura in Nagpur.

In further probe, GRP found that these women thieves’ gang was involved in around 15 theft incidents and was wanted in several theft incidents in Gadarwara and Khandwa.
