Nagpur: Savli Barbunje, Navyanveli Swamy, Malhar Sable and Anant Deshmukh all of Nagpur emerged champions in various weights categories as it was curtains on the State Boxing Championship at Nagpur University’s Subhedar Hall, Ravi Nagar, on Wednesday.
The championship was held under the aegis of Maharashtra Boxing Association, in collaboration with District Amateur Boxing Association of Nagpur and Kamptee Taluka Boxing Multi-Purpose Organisation.
Sable of Nagpur district maintained his winning performance in the sub-junior boys category. In the 46-49 kgs weight category, Malhar gave a strong performance to win the gold medal by defeating Ahmednagar’s Ishant Karne 3- 2. Anant Deshmukh of Nagpur district won the gold medal defeating Karthik Khanjode of Akola 1-0 in the 55-58 kgs weight category.
Savli Barbunje won the gold medal defeating Arya Pagar of Pune 1-0 in the girls’ 46-49 kgs weight category. In the 52-55 kgs weight group, Nayyanveli won the gold medal ousting Sanskruti Yeveli of Satara 4-1. Pooja Channe of Nagpur won the bronze medal in the 49-52 kgs weight category in the same category.
While in the 55 to 58 kgs weight group, Samiksha Singh and Jubia Khan (58-61 kgs weight group) and Shraddha Nandanwar (61-64 kgs) won bronze medals. Nagpur’s Sanvi Mahajan lost 5-0 to Revathi Umbarkar of Kridapith in the gold medal match of the 57 to 60 kgs weight category in the junior girls category. While Khushi Shaikh of Nagpur district had to accept defeat to Mardavi Bhosle of Mumbai in the 54 to 57 kgs weight category, both athletes had to settle for silver medals.
Pune district, with 18 points, clinched the overall championship while Akola and Satara districts secured the second and third positions with 17 points each. Ayushi Bhosle of Jalgaon was declared as the most promising boxer while Nagpur’s Samiksha Singh was named as the best challenger and Dhrupata Saud of Raigarh as the best boxer.
Kridapith won the overall title with 35 points while Satara came second with 33 points and Pune third with 26 points. Malhar Sable of Nagpur was awarded as the best boxer, while Rajat Chaudhary of Pune was awarded as the best challenger and Atharva Bhatt of KP was awarded as the most promising boxer.
