Nagpur Businessman Arrested for Rs 1.21 Crore Fraud in Balaghat

Balaghat/Nagpur: Known for its high-quality rice, Balaghat is now making headlines for a significant fraud case. The Kotwali police have arrested a Nagpur businessman for defrauding Rs 1.21 crore. The accused is currently in police custody for two days for further interrogation.

The Kotwali police in Balaghat apprehended the Nagpur businessman in connection with a fraud case amounting to Rs 1.21 crore. The businessman, Sumit Manglani, a resident of Vivekanand Colony, had lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police. Following the complaint, the police arrested the accused from his residence in Nagpur.

Business Involving Betel Nuts, Coconuts, and Rice

Sumit Manglani owns a shop named Pashupati Nath Traders in Balaghat. Abhishek Bajaj, the proprietor of Ashish Traders in Shrirang Colony, Vidyanagar, Nagpur, engaged in business dealings with Sumit involving betel nuts, coconuts, and rice.

Business Commenced in June 2021

Abhishek Bajaj started business transactions with Sumit’s firm in June 2021, making an advance payment of Rs 20 lakh. Over time, Sumit supplied betel nuts, coconuts, and rice from Balaghat to Nagpur.

Accused Delayed Payment

From July 2021 to the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2022, Sumit supplied goods worth Rs 75.15 lakh to Abhishek’s firm. Abhishek had requested a loan from Sumit, who, considering their business relationship, transferred Rs 25 lakh to him in March 2022. The financial transactions between Sumit and Abhishek continued.

Stopped Paying the Due Amount

Abhishek Bajaj eventually stopped paying Sumit Manglani his rightful dues, accumulating a debt of Rs 1.21 crore. Despite Sumit’s repeated requests, Abhishek did not settle the amount.

Avoided Communication

Sumit stated that Abhishek eventually stopped answering his calls. Even after several personal meetings, Abhishek continued to delay the payment. Following Sumit’s complaint, the Kotwali police registered a case against Abhishek Bajaj, the proprietor of Ashish Traders in Nagpur.

Police Action

Under the guidance of Kotwali Police Inspector Prakash Vaskale, Sub-Inspector Naveen Pandey, Head Constable Rahul Gautam, Constable Sheikh Shahzad, and other police personnel formed a team and went to Nagpur. The police team apprehended Abhishek Bajaj from his home and brought him to Balaghat. The accused was presented before the Balaghat court and has been remanded in police custody for two days for further interrogation.
