Nagpur: Swift action on the part of Sadar police saved the life of a 42-year-old woman teacher, who had left home with the intention of ending life by jumping into Futala Lake on Thursday afternoon.

A cop who got the information passed it on to senior officers, who drove from the Collector office to Futala Lake within five minutes to save the woman. Police said the teacher, a resident of Mankapur, had been stressed for some time because her son was skipping JEE classes.

On Thursday afternoon, she left home angry, and her brother realised something was wrong. He went to check on her at Mankapur Square, where some auto drivers informed him that she had gone to Futala Lake. Unable to reach Futala Lake in time, the brother informed head constable Pramod Dighore of Sadar Police Station. Dighore informed Senior PI Manish Thakre, who along with Rekha Kawadkar, Bhojraj Padole and Nitin Mane rushed to Futala from the Collector office.

Cops traced her near Futala Lake and took her to Sadar Police Station. Family members of the teacher too reached the police station. Sadar Police counselled the woman and handed her over to Ambazari police, who reunited her with her family members.
