Nagpur: Mercury is rising and creating conditions which could lead to cloudy atmosphere again by Tuesday in many parts of the state, warns MET dept.
Between Tuesday, 7th April and Thursday 9th April, Vidarbha, Marathwada will have cloudy weather and rains. There is possibility of hail storms again, like we saw in March.
The unusually high temperatures are leading to low depression areas over Rajasthan on one side and Assam and Bangladesh on the other leading to cyclonic conditions. Places like Nagpur, Nanded, Malegaon, Bramhapuri, Chandrapur have seen mercury rise over 38 to 40 degrees even.
In south Indian coastal areas from AP coast to Kerala are seeing rise in tidal waves. All these conditions are leading up to non seasonal rains and even hail storms hitting Vidarbha in many places soon.
Environmental scientist Dr. Madhav Gadgil has warned that such weather changes are going to detrimental to farming and farmlands. Apart from the immediate damage due to hail storms, the quality of farmlands and its productivity is also going to suffer.
Organic farming is the only alternative with new methods of irrigation and changing crop patterns.
He blamed over population and resulting deforestation etc. for change in weather conditions which should make us relook at our agricultural practices, he said.
