Nagpur: Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal detained dreaded goon Akshay Nagesh Patil under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Dangerous Persons, Video Pirates, Sand Smugglers and persons engaged in Blackmarketing of Essential Commodities Act (MPDA) on Friday.
A resident of Jattarodi No 01, Indira Nagar, Imambada, Akshay Patil (23), who presently has been kept in Central Jail, would soon be shifted to Yerwada Jail, Pune. Patil was involved in many crimes of serious nature, including robbery, and several cases were registered against him at Imambada Police Station. In 2022, preventive action was initiated against him under Section 110 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. However, Patil continued indulging in criminal activities spreading terror and fear amongst residents in Imambada area.
Senior Inspector of Imambada Police Station prepared a proposal for his detention under MPDA Act and submitted it to the Crime Branch. Subsequently, the MPDA Section of the Crime Branch forwarded the same to the CP. Finally, the City Police Chief issued orders for Patil’s detention under MPDA.
Two goons involved in assault, loot case arrested
Mankapur Police arrested two of the three robbers, who were involved in assaulting a 37-year-old man and looting cash from him, on Sunday. The accused have been identified as Sanket Dilip Kanare (24), a resident of Plot No 16, Koradi Road, Mankapur, and Tushar Anil Sharma (22), a resident of Ganga Nagar Slums.
A resident of Plot No 94, Saint Martin Nagar, Jaripatka, Morian Anteek was returning home in his Maruti car (MH40/KR-3657) around 11.30 pm on Saturday. Near Dawat Hotel on service road in Mankapur area, Kanare, Sharma and one of their accomplices way laid him. They thrashed him and looted Rs 1700 cash and a cell phone at knife point. While fleeing, one of the robbers pelted stone on the windshield of the car and also damaged the indicator.
Within 24 hours of the incident, cops nabbed accused Kanere and Sharma who confessed to committing the crime with one of their friends. Cops arrested them on charges under Sections 394,427 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Search for the third accused is on.
