Nagpur: In a move to stop sale and use of banned nylon manja, Nagpur Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar on Tuesday released an awareness documentary against the deadly stuff which has been banned by the National Green Tribunal and Bombay High Court.
Kumar, who had earlier issued CrPC 144 against the sale, purchase, distribution or stocking of the nylon manja, had issued fresh instructions to all the police station in-charges and the Crime Branch to crackdown upon the traders or buyers of the killer thread. This year in 8 cases, city police have seized nylon manja stock worth more than Rs 3 lakh.
Kumar, addressing the police stations and Crime Branch on wireless, is learnt to have urged the senior cops to conduct searches at the probable places where nylon manja can be found. The top cop has also warned the police personnel against any slackness in taking action against the traders or transporters related to the nylon manja.
The Nagpur police blame the manufacture of nylon manja on Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The Maharashtra Government has banned the sale and use of nylon manja but it continues to be sold online. The court has summoned the DCP and asked the chief secretary to sensitize their counterparts in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The court also criticized the Maharashtra Government for failing to control the use of nylon manja.
