Nagpur: The sleuths of the Crime Branch busted a high-profile IPL betting racket operating from a flat in Sonegaon by arresting three bookies from Yavatmal and seizing goods worth Rs 35.61 lakh on Thursday night.
Police have identified the accused as Ayefaz Sheikh Kadir (23), Hariom Batra (31), Ravi Nandkishor Borele (38), all residents of the Yavatmal district.
According to police sources, they received confidential information regarding a group involved in betting operating from the Sonegaon area. After verifying the inputs, police raided Flat No. 128 and Flat No. 301 in Parn Apartment, Pannase Layout, Swamlambi Nagar.
During the raid, police found the accused accepting bets on the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) match from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Police seized 23 mobile phones, a TV, two cars, a bike, and other goods worth Rs 35.61 lakh from the possession of the accused.
Under the guidance of CP Ravinder Singhal, Jt CP Aswati Dorje, Addl CP Sanjay Patil, and DCP (Detection) Nimit Goyel, the Crime Branch squad, comprising PI Kiran Kabadi, API Mayur Chaurasiya, Police Constables Rajesh Deshmukh, Ravi Ahir, Prashant Gabhane, Shrikant Ukey, Police Naik Praveen Rode, driver Abhay, and others, made the arrest.
