Nagpur Customs destroys 1,340.7 kg of narcotics worth Rs 19.7 crore

Nagpur: Continuing its commitment towards fighting the drug menace, the Nagpur Customs recently disposed of 1,340.7 kg of narcotic substances valued at Rs 19.7 crore through incineration, at Butibori, Nagpur.

The narcotics substances destroyed consisted of 1.7 kg of cocaine seized by the Air Intelligence Unit, Customs Nagpur and 1,339 kg of ganja seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Nagpur Regional Unit, Nagpur, in two different cases.

The destruction of the material was done under the guidance of Sanjay Kumar, Commissioner of Customs, in the presence of Chairman of Drug Disposal Committee, Customs Nagpur Peeyush Bhati, Additional Commissioner of Customs along with its other members — Nikhil Vadnam, Deputy Director of DRI Nagpur, and Anjum Tadvi, Assistant Commissioner of Customs.

The NDPS substances were incinerated as per the procedure prescribed in the NDPS Act, 1985 and Disposal Manual, 2019 by the Nagpur Customs Commissionerate. It was done in compliance with Pollution Control Laws for Green Environment. This exercise was done in line with the Union Government’s Zero Tolerance Policy against narcotics and to deliver a strong message to the smugglers who engage in the smuggling of NDPS substance, says a press release.
