Nagpur: In a significant operation against illegal gambling, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rashmita Rao, newly appointed to Zone 4, conducted a raid on a ‘Worli Matka’ gambling den in Parvati Nagar. The raid resulted in cases being filed against three individuals, including a constable from Ajni Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Mangesh Sambhaji Bawne (40), a resident of Shankarpur, Beltarodi; Manish Mataprasad Prajapati (26), from Sheshnagar, Hudkeshwar; and Constable Manohar Kashinath Mulmule (42), posted at Ajni Police Station.
DCP Rao initiated the raid after receiving information about a ‘Kalyan-Mumbai’ betting syndicate. Mangesh and Manish were caught accepting bets, leading to their arrest. Police seized 251 betting slips, Rs 450 in cash, a mobile phone, and a pen from Mangesh, while Rs 170 and a mobile phone were confiscated from Manish.
Further investigations revealed that Constable Mulmule had been placing bets using Mangesh’s phone. All three individuals were charged under Section 12(a) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act and were issued notices before being released.
