Nagpur: Last year, the Nagpur division saw a significant outbreak of dengue, with Nagpur district recording the highest number of cases. This year, the situation remains concerning, with 206 dengue cases reported across six districts in East Vidarbha from January 1 to May 21, 2024. Unfortunately, one patient has died during treatment, increasing the health department’s anxiety about potential outbreaks due to unseasonal rains.
Records from Pune’s health department reveal that the deceased dengue patient was from Wardha district. In the Nagpur division, Chandrapur district has the highest number of cases with 75 dengue patients. Wardha follows with 45 cases, while Nagpur district has reported 20 cases. Additionally, Gondia district has 38 cases, and Gadchiroli has reported 28 cases, summing up to a total of 206 dengue cases in the Nagpur division. The health office in Nagpur has confirmed these figures.
An anonymous health department official stated that continuous efforts, including insecticide spraying and awareness campaigns, are being carried out to control the spread of dengue. Despite these efforts, the situation remains challenging.
