Nagpur Today Impacts : Nagpur Driver Arrested for Obscene Acts in Car as Video Goes Viral

Nagpur: On July 15, 2024, around 7:30 PM, within the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station, between Law College Square and Laxmi Bhavan Square, Dharampeth, a video surfaced on and reported by Nagpur Today showing the driver of a four-wheeler, vehicle number MH 31 FA 6506, engaging in obscene acts with a 27-year-old woman while driving. This video was deemed inappropriate and unrepresentative of Indian culture, causing public outrage.

The individuals have been identified as Suraj Rajkumar Soni, 28, a newly qualified Chartered Accountant from Mankapur, and his girlfriend, a Mechanical Engineering student. According to the police, Suraj borrowed his father’s Hyundai i-10 on Monday evening and picked up his girlfriend around 7 PM. Following a casual outing at roadside food stalls, they continued their journey in the car.

During their drive through the Giripeth, Dharampeth area, the couple allegedly engaged in compromising behavior, which was captured on camera by a passerby and widely circulated on social media. After receiving the video, Sitabuldi police launched an investigation and identified the vehicle through its registration number – MH-31/FA-6506.

Police officials summoned Suraj, his girlfriend, and their parents to the police station for questioning. Charges have been filed under various sections, including 296, 281, 293 of the BNS, Section 144 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA), and Sections 111, 112, and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act (MPA). Following procedures, the couple was released on bail with notices.
