Nagpur: With an alarming number of approximately 650-700 public CCTV cameras reported dysfunctional across Nagpur, Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal was compelled to chair a high-level review meeting with concerned agencies on Tuesday. The city’s law enforcement heavily relies on the efficacy of CCTV camera networks for crime prevention, detection, and traffic management.

Singal, who had previously emphasized the need for bolstering the CCTV network, insisted on the installation of 900 additional cameras at strategic locations. Addressing the issue, the top cop highlighted that numerous CCTV cameras have succumbed to malfunction in various areas due to ongoing civic construction projects, adversely impacting cabling and connectivity. He urged the involved agencies to expedite their efforts in revitalizing their systems and ensuring that defunct cameras resume operations promptly.

In a related development, Commissioner Singal provided an update on the investigation into the February murder of photographer Vinay Poonekar. He disclosed that the prime suspect, fugitive shooter Hemant Shukla, remains at large as police units relentlessly pursue him across northern India. Shukla, already a known criminal with a previous murder case against him, is adept at evading law enforcement, employing extreme caution in his communications to avoid detection.

Singal affirmed the police’s unwavering commitment to bringing Shukla to justice, expressing confidence that the fugitive’s luck will soon run out.
