Nagpur: Heavy rains have left Nagpur submerged, with rising water levels in the Pipla Fata area flooding many homes. Desperate residents have taken refuge on their rooftops, but the Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell claims the area is outside its jurisdiction, refusing to assist.

The city and its rural areas have experienced varying rainfall since Friday night, intensifying on Saturday morning. All rivers and streams in the district are swelling, posing further risks. In Pipla, the water level of a nearby drain rose, flooding homes and forcing families to seek safety on their rooftops.

The Pramod Ingle family, including a disabled child and an elderly member, is among those stranded. Despite appeals to the Municipal Corporation and disaster management cell for rescue, the response was initially dismissive, stating the area was not within their limits. This left the family in shock, although a rescue team was eventually dispatched.

The incident raises concerns about the Municipal Corporation’s responsiveness to emergencies, questioning whether jurisdiction boundaries should hinder rescue efforts during floods. Meanwhile, the family also sought help from the district’s disaster management cell, with the community eagerly awaiting aid.

Children were also spotted on the roof of Adarsh Sanskar School in Pipla, highlighting the widespread impact. Pramod Ingle reported significant water levels in other low-lying homes, escalating the danger.

The Indraprastha Nagar area of Pipla houses over a thousand people in various apartments and independent homes. Low-lying houses have been hit hardest, while those on higher ground face less severe flooding.
