Nagpur: Four police officers faced suspension after celebrating Independence Day with a dance performance in their uniforms at a police station. The incident took place at the Tehsil Police Station, where the officers danced to the popular Bollywood song “Khike Paan Banaras Wala” following the flag hoisting ceremony.

The officers involved in the incident were ASI Sanjay Patankar, Head Constable Abdul Qayyum Ghani, policewoman Bhagyashree Giri, and Constable Nirmala Gawli. The video of their performance was recorded and shared on social media, sparking mixed reactions. While some people defended the officers’ right to enjoy themselves, others raised concerns about the appropriateness of the act, given their uniformed status.

In the suspension order, it was emphasized that the police force is a disciplined institution, and officers in uniform are expected to maintain a respectable image in the public eye. Despite previous warnings on similar matters, the officers’ actions were deemed to have tarnished the reputation of the police force. As a result, they have been suspended for three months.

During the suspension period, the officers will receive half of their regular salary along with a proportional dearness allowance. They have also been stripped of all other government benefits and will be prohibited from engaging in any other employment. Additionally, they are required to report to the reserved police inspector at headquarters at 7 AM and 8 PM daily, and they must surrender their uniforms, identification cards, and all government documents.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding discipline and professionalism within the police force, particularly during significant national events like Independence Day.
