Nagpur: Supposed to be a very important train for local passengers, the Nagpur-Jabalpur-Nagpur Superfast Express resumed its run from October 26. However, in a kind of embarrassment for the railway authorities, the first run of the train saw almost empty coaches.
On Tuesday, the train that reached Nagpur from Jabalpur (02160) in the morning carried only 50 passengers. The situation was no better when 02159 Nagpur-Jabalpur Superfast Express departed for Jabalpur in the night. The number of passengers travelling in the train was negligible. The entire train has over 1300 berths but the train rolled down from Nagpur Station with empty coaches.
The train is also known as “Ambulance” train. Before the imposition of lockdowns, the train used to depart from Jabalpur at night and reached Nagpur at 6.35 in the morning the next day. On the other hand, the Nagpur to Jabalpur train used to depart at 9.30 pm. The train timing was very convenient for those people who come to Nagpur for medical treatment. Most of the patients from Jabalpur and nearby areas travelled on this train. But due to Covid-19 induced lockdowns, the operation of this train was suspended. Now, from October 26, the run of this train has resumed but nobody expected the empty coaches.
