Nagpur: Ten people, including a man from Nagpur, were killed and more than 24 passengers were injured when a speeding travel bus collided with a stationary truck in Maihar area of Madhya Pradesh on late Saturday night. The injured include two persons from Nagpur. They are currently receiving treatment at hospitals in Maihar, Amarpatan, and Satna.
Six passengers died on the spot, while four more succumbed to their injuries en route to Satna District Hospital, bringing the death toll to 10. Rescue teams are working tirelessly, but the number of casualties might increase as many of the injured are in critical condition. The bus, especially the front section, was completely destroyed, trapping bodies inside. The situation was serious, with rescue teams having to cut through the bus with gas cutters to recover the bodies.
The deceased include Ganesh Ajaykumar Sahu (25), from Nagpur, Lallu Ramavatar Yadav (60), a resident of Pratapgarh; Raju alias Pranjal (18), a resident of Jaunpur; Ambika Prasad Motilal (55), and five others. Among the injured are Ajay Kumar Umesh Kumar Gupta (21), a resident of Rewa; Praveen Ramkumar Shriwas, and Pramod Ramkumar Shriwas, as well as several others from Nagpur and surrounding areas are injured in the accident.
The Abha Travels bus (UP-72/AT-4952), was travelling from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to Nagpur with 45 passengers onboard on Saturday night. The driver accelerated the bus in the Maihar area which resulted in a collision with a stationary truck (CG04/NB-6786). Nine people were killed, and more than 24 passengers were injured.
Upon receiving the information, the Maihar Police teams arrived at the scene. With the assistance of JCB and gas cutters, they extracted passengers from the bus. The police then transported the injured to various hospitals. Maihar police have registered a case of accident against the bus driver and have initiated an investigation.
