Nagpur: A 36-year-old man lost his life, and another was injured after an SUV ran over them while they were sleeping on Versova Beach early Monday morning. The driver and his accomplice fled the scene without assisting the victims or notifying authorities.
The suspects, identified as Nikhil Dilip Jawate, 34, from Nagpur, and Shubham Ashok Dongre, 33, from Airoli, Navi Mumbai, were later apprehended following an extensive search. The police traced their SUV, which bore the registration number MH31-FE-3033.

The incident occurred around 5:45 AM when Ganesh Vikram Yadav, an autorickshaw driver from the Sagar Kutir area, was sleeping on the beach to avoid the summer heat. His friend, Bablu Shrivastava, a delivery boy from Andheri, was also present.
Shrivastava recounted the horrific moment when he was suddenly awakened by a blunt impact on his head and hand. He witnessed the SUV running over Yadav, who sustained severe head and facial injuries and lay unconscious. The two men driving the SUV immediately fled as a crowd began to gather.
Yadav’s brother, Bajrangi Yadav, rushed to the scene and transported both men to Cooper Hospital, where Yadav was declared dead.
The police have registered an FIR and are investigating the case as culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Blood samples of the suspects have been sent for testing to determine if they were intoxicated at the time of the incident. Statements from other witnesses present at the scene have also been recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
