Nagpur: Former MP Gev Shri Awari enjoyed a ride in Nagpur Metro on Monday from Sitabuldi Interchange to Khapri. He was very pleased with the service of Nagpur Metro.
During the ride he said, “I have travelled in many metros all over the world but I can confidently say that Nagpur Metro is the best. The metro is a matter of pride for Nagpurians. We can save time, fuel and money by travelling by it.”
Shri Awari got down at New Airport station and paid his respects to the statue of Lord Gautam Buddha. He was amazed by the beauty and architecture of the station.
The ex-MP was impressed by the stations of Nagpur Metro. “Maha Metro has done a commendable job of conserving the city’s heritage while constructing the stations. The photographs and paintings of the city’s heritage put up at stations will enable the new generation to learn about it,” said Shri Awari.
The former parliamentarian said that Nagpur was in dire need of a public transport system. “Now it has got a world class one. I did not find even a speck of dirt in the train and stations, which is commendable. Maha Metro has taken special care for comfort of senior citizens and physically challenged people,” he added.
Appealing the Nagpurians to travel by metro in large numbers, Shri Awari said that people of Orange City adopted a new thing only gradually. “However, once they develop confidence in it they stick to the new thing. I was the chairman of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). I had introduced double-decker buses in Nagpur. The response in the initial days was poor. However, soon the response was overwhelming and we had to increase the number of double-decker buses,” he further said.
Shri Awari expressed confidence that Nagpur Metro would be jam packed in the coming days. “When metro starts running on Central Avenue and Kamptee Road in December, citizens of Nagpur will greatly benefit from it,” he said.
