Nagpur metro ridership up, revenue down after fare cut

Nagpur: The Nagpur Metro’s ticket pricing strategy has proven to be a make-or-break factor in its success, with commuters swiftly switching to alternative transport modes when fares rise and flocking back when prices drop.

After a fare hike in January 2023, ridership plummeted to 65,000 in July, only to rebound to 91,000 in August following a 33% fare cut in May.

Although the reduced fares have drawn more commuters, revenue growth has been slower, with a 12.7% increase in August compared to May, lagging behind the 25% rise in ridership.
