Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) continued its strict action against the owners of open plots in the city on Sunday. Acting on the orders of NMC Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the Asi Nagar Zone office filed FIRs against 11 plot owners at the local police station. This follows similar action taken on Saturday when FIRs were filed against three other plot owners.

The city has over 75,000 open plots, where accumulated garbage is causing waterlogging during the rainy season. This stagnant water is becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects, leading to the spread of infectious diseases like dengue and chikungunya. As a result, the health department and the solid waste management cell have initiated stringent actions.

On Sunday alone, FIRs were registered against 11 plot owners, causing a stir in the city.

11 FIRs Registered on Sunday

Nagpur has more than 75,000 vacant plots, many of which are owned by individuals residing in other cities. Local residents have been dumping garbage on these vacant plots, leading to unsanitary conditions and the spread of diseases. The Asi Nagar Zone office had issued notices to 11 plot owners, instructing them to clean their plots by clearing wild vegetation and stagnant water by August 7. However, despite the deadline, no action was taken by the owners, prompting the zone office’s chief sanitation officer, Sunil Tambe, to file complaints at Kapilnagar Police Station. The owners are accused of neglecting the cleanliness of their plots, leading to the unhygienic conditions.

This crackdown comes after similar actions were taken on Saturday in Dhantoli and Hanuman Nagar, where FIRs were filed against three plot owners. The investigation into these cases is being led by Sub-Inspector Shankar Nilpartewar.
